Darren Fly, head of active substance supply at the Chemical Regulation Division (CRD), stated at the British Crop Production Council (BCPC) virtual congress that all active substances expiring between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2023 would be granted, that it to say a three-year extension under Britain’s new pesticide regulation regime.

“This three-year extension is provided to allow time for the development of GB’s new active substance renewal program, although HSE [the Health and Safety Executive] will continue to have the power to review active substance approvals at any time should new testing identify any human health or environmental concerns,” said Darren Fly.

The extension should apply to glyphosate, as its current expiry date in the European Union is 15 December 2022, which means that after Brexit its expiry date will be extended to at least 15 December 2025 in Britain.
