Last week was another slow one for corn and soybean planting in most states as wet weather and flooding continued to impede progress.
The USDA says 58% of corn is planted as of Sunday, compared to 49% a week ago and the five-year average of 90%, with 32% of the crop emerged, compared to 69% on average.
For soybeans, 29% of the crop is planted, compared to 19% last week and 66% normally, with 11% emerged, compared to 35% typically this time of year.
Spring wheat planting is 84% complete, compared to 91% on average, with emergence at 47%, compared to the usual pace of 69%.
Weather is also affecting winter wheat, with the USDA’s good to excellent rating dropping 5% on the week to 61% good to excellent. Still, that’s well above the 38% this time last year. 66% of winter wheat has headed, compared to 76% on average.
67% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent, up 1% from the previous week.
